Lower Extremity Arterial Doppler with Segmental Pressures at Rest

1)    Brachial arm pressures should not differ by more than 20 mmHg

2)    Ankle/Brachial Index

a.   Normal                                               >=1.00

b.    Minimally abnormal                         0.90-1.00

c.    Moderate                                       0.50-0.90

d.    Severe                                             <0.50

3)    Thigh/Brachial Index

             a.   Normal                                                >1.20

             b.    Aortoiliac disease                               0.80-1.2

4)    Toe/Brachial Index

a.    Normal                  >0.70

              b.   Abnormal                                     <0.70

5)   A difference >30mmHg between adjacent cuffs on the same leg is abnormal

6)    A horizontal difference between cuffs at the same level 30mmHg or more indicates disease at
or below the cuff level in the leg with the lower pressure

Lower Extremity Arterial Doppler with Segmental Pressures and Exercise

Normal

1) Post exercise pressures increase

2) Drop in ankle pressure post exercise <20% that recovers within three minutes

Abnormal

   1) Drop in ankle pressure post exercise >20% that takes longer

     than three minutes to recover
